Basic Blogging Don’ts Code Of Conduct That Must Be Followed
1) Please Do Not Copy/Paste or Plagiarize someone else’s hard work on your own Website.
You wouldn’t want someone to steal your hard work and claim it as your own do you?
As tempting as it might be to grab a hold of WordPress Plugins like Content Copy Protection & Prevent Image Save, WP Content Copy Protection & No Right Click, or even WP Content Copy Protection, it is not necessary to have these Plugins on your Website at all in the hopes your Content will be kept safe from Plagiarizing Thieves.
Besides, I think blocking Content in a way may upset the Audience too. Suppose a Commenter wants to Copy/Paste a portion of what they liked about our Blog Post, we should be courteous to let them right? They could say something like: “Quote” I really liked this Quote you had, it helped uplift my lack of motivation greatly. Thanks. Plus, I think it makes for better user-experience too.
Don’t block people from Copying your Content. This can also block Search Engines and that Websites that block the highlighting of Content and copying of it always lead to lower rankings.
If you take something from someone that doesn’t belong to you nor have had asked if you may borrow it by asking permission. Then clearly in terms of grabbing Content elsewhere and claiming it to your own. That’s stealing! Google does not approve of this and to them it looks bad in 2 ways.
First, Google will definitely rank you lower which cuts your chances of your Content being seen on the First Page of the Search Results. This literally cuts your best chances on getting noticed better and potentially even valuable audience who would turn into great customers down the road. Second, Google might penalize you for your posting and you may lose the ability to write future Content. This is just as bad as when you lose your Driver’s License. But, withholding you from writing a Blog Post again, it is pretty bad in Google’s eyes.
You have to suddenly ask yourself: Hmm, why are my schools and colleges asking me to cite my own work accordingly whenever I write my research projects? It is because if you plagiarize and try to incorporate someone else’s hard work as your own, this can go on your permanent record and it would look really terrible if you do it again and again to the point you would be ultimately expelled from learning at that particular school/college you always wanted. So, do the best to resist that temptation by giving in to stealing the treasure from someone else when it doesn’t belong to you in the first place.
However, the better alternative you can do is by “Getting Influence” meaning you view other Websites on the internet related to your Niche and come up with your very own unique ideas for your own Website. As you do more and more research into your topic of interest, always remember the most important rule of thumb when writing Content: “Always paraphase – putting things in your own words” the information that appeals to you.
Its best to be original and unique than be perceived as a copycat, right? Its nice when you agree with someone else when they mention a great concept in their Content, but the important thing is how you interpret it. How is it you see the Topic differently, by presenting it in your perspective, your audience will then read your own Website Content and be prepared to think more outside of the box. Pretty sweet deal, right?
2) Don’t forget to do your Keyword Research on Key Terms.

If you are first starting out with Keyword Research and are unsure of what topics to write for future Blog Post Articles based on your niche, look no further than Ubersuggest. This place can give you unlimited ideas of what to come up with next to present to your audience on your Website.
Another Keyword Tool you might want to consider using is the Wealthy Affiliate Keyword Tool. It is pretty simple to use and read the data that is being presented there.
3) Don’t procrastinate.
It is often easy to push things to do later, but a great strategy game plan to follow is get ahead of the game and not worry about it later on down the road. Try to work out a schedule that works along with you per day as you make progress to adding more Content in your Website.
I often struggled with Publishing my Saved Drafts because they were just not “Ready.” I kept pushing it off and kept telling myself I will get around to doing that later. In theory, that made me go from being a fast cheetah to a slow sloth, snail, or turtle combined.
Upon waiting to Publish my Content, I realized that I am NOT giving Google any indication that my Website is up and running. So, when I wait to Publish my Content when I think it is perfect, it takes Google all the longer to Crawl into it and get it moving along the Ranking in the Search Results.
So, even if your Posts are Saved in a Draft and not “Ready,” just do yourself a favor and Publish them regardless. This way they will start ranking better while you still work on putting more informational Content on your Website. 🙂 A work in progress.
A key thing to keep in mind is that Google will not take immediate action to Rank your Website High once you have completed all you needed to say in your Post and have it Published. It will take some extra time, especially with New Websites. The longer your Website stands on the Internet, the better the chances it gains trust, which would lead to better Rankings as a result. But, remember your Websites Posts will rise up and hit bottom every now and then in the Rankings, but that is normal, it is okay. 🙂 (So, please don’t have a nervous breakdown over this).
4) Don’t second-guess yourself.
Don’t have so many self-doubts of thinking too much into writing the Website. This is important since even if you think you may not provide the best smash hit sounding Content as you read it out aloud to yourself, chances are you probably wouldn’t feel right withholding information that someone else wants to more about. So, take the opportunity to know that knowledge is power, sharing is caring!
5) Do not seek perfection right away.
While starting out, you feel like you want to make the best impression possible. But, as time progresses it is still an ongoing process whether you make changes as time goes on. Building a Website is something that never ends. Being perfect and flawless should not be at the top of your list when writing information for your Website. If at first you don’t succeed try, try, try again until you feel more confident to be a fast typer like I am with writing good quality content for my audience like you to enjoy. 😉
6) Don’t put Images into your Content without relating to it.
For good quality writing skills, you must only put an image in your Content if the audience can connect the Content ideas to the image being present there. Makes it for more user-friendly experience. You wouldn’t just blindly post Images in your Content just for the sake of it without explaining it first would you? I mean it is quite common that I am sure all of you ran into a Website where you were happily reading the Content of information but the images had nothing to do with what was written, right? It left you either confused or asking the question: Good grief, they should know better, what were they thinking presenting an irrelevant image to their blog post article?
Speaking along the lines of using Images, don’t forget to also include a Caption when it is relevant and for the First Image on your Blog Post Articles, make sure it is on the Right-Hand Side since we read from left to right, and also be certain you have placed your Keyword in the Alt Text of that First Image on your Blog Post Articles as well. By doing this, your Images are more likely to be Indexed by Search Engines like Google, and suppose someone types in those Keywords, your Images might end up being at the Top of the Image Search Results also.
7) Don’t have too many words of Information on your Pages/Posts without putting a couple Images there.
We as humans are highly visual by nature. Content that is too wordy = more boring, not worth the time to read. Not as fascinating as one had hoped. Images hold a place of interest for many people because images helps connect Content Ideas together so that the overall written blog post article seem to work together and complement one another. The same can be said of putting Videos in also.
9) Don’t Forget to put a decent picture of yourself in your About Me Section.
Your visitors would want to feel as though they know you and adding a picture gives your Blog Post or Page a more personal touch to it. It also deems it more professional and natural too if you think about it.
10) Don’t Forget to Communicate well with your audience.
They are here on your Website to learn a thing or two, and you are the teacher. They want to know if you respond well and are helpful with what they are curious about in learning more information on. Plus, sharing what you know with your audience is always a wonderful thing.
People want to know your expertise since they are very curious and eager to learn more about understanding your Content better. Even if at times you feel unsure of how to answer them back, just do it politely and offer some words of wisdom of what you already know, it may not be perfect, but at least in this way it helps to build more Trust which is very important in terms of Ranking your Website better. You may also want to offer them Website Links of where you obtained a certain piece of information for the Topic in your Content from. Try to get back to your Responders within the same day itself when they left Feedback on your Website. You never know, they may come again and again on your Website based on how well they saw you active on your own Website in progress.
One of the great ways you can offer your Audience a chance to communicate with you is by having a Contact Form 7. It is a type of Plugin. In order to Activate it to work on your Website. You would need to Create a Page, then Copy/Paste a Code they give you. Then, you can Create a Custom Menu of your Pages and Posts. Pages are what are at the Top within the Navigation Menu, as you hover over that, you can drop down the Posts underneath like sub sections of Categories. 🙂
However, I would strongly suggest trying your hand with SumoMe Plugin as it can help eliminate loads of Plugins that are essential for your Website, such as Contact Form, Social Share Icons, etc.
11) Don’t ever be rude to your audience.
You need to be kind to earn respect and trust from your visitors to your Website. Always have good manners with them. Be sure to say sincere words whenever you receive Comments or Questions from them. The words “Please” and “Thank You” can work wonders. 🙂 Plus, you will make your audience to feel good and have a better user friendly experience running through the Content on your Website as well. 🙂
Never swear at your Audience, it leaves a bad impression, and it could prevent them from returning back to your Website again.
So, always remember to “put your best foot forward” in all that you say and do. 🙂
12) Don’t ever have CAPTCHA Code on your Website at all!
Visitors usually find that thing annoying because they feel they have to waste a ton of time just Refreshing to an Image they can easily see and enter the Special Characters using their Keyboard each time to Post a Comment/Question on any of your Website’s Pages/Posts. Sometimes when they write a really well thoughtful Comment/Question on any of your Website’s Pages/Posts and when they strongly believed they entered the Right CAPTCHA to Submit their Feedback, it might not give them a Preview saying Your Comment Is Awaiting Moderation. It leaves them utterly frustrated that they feel they need to give just a couple sentences of Comment just for the sake of it showing their participation interacting with your Website Content.
I don’t know about you, but I always cringe before a Comment Box that has a CAPTCHA in there. And, usually for most of the times I try to write Comments for these Websites that have this, my comment has a higher chance of being in the Spam Folder than in the actual Pending Folder for the Website Owner to get around to reading it and approving it to be seen on their Website publicly.
Plus, try to think about a vision impaired person who often has to re-enter the given code several times before they get it right, because they can’t decipher it first time. For ease of convenience sake and user-friendly experience, lets just simply throw out the CAPTCHA Code entirely from being a part of our Comment Boxes, shall we?
13) Don’t Have Too Many Conflicting Plugins on Your Website.
If you have 2 Plugins that serve the same purpose, they will most likely clash just as if you had 2 Anti-Virus Running Software on the same Computer. Best to exert Process of Elimination with this since its best to have one or the other, and not both for double the trouble conflicts for you.
By which I mean you shouldn’t have your Website crash or go down with a Client Error Message on your Screen for your Website. Plus, it wouldn’t be nice to the Visitors who had high hopes of returning to your Website to read up on New Content. If they see an Error Message on your Screen, there is a high chance, you could potentially lose those Visitors from coming back entirely or your Website might lose a Percentage Ranking in terms of its Trust level engaging with the Audience also.
The same can be said when a certain Website Blog Post Article opens up and the Message reads as: Oops! Page Not Found! Clearly this looks awful to the Visitor since they were looking forward to reading the Content in the hopes that they would be provided with a solution to help deal with the topic matter problem they were faced with.
A great Rule of Thumb you should follow is: Make sure all your Links in your Blog Post Articles lead somewhere, it should never ever ever ever say Page Not Found because to Google, they could Rank that Post lower and deem it not user-friendly since you are keeping information that would be of Personal Benefit to your Audience.
Suggested Plugin of Interest to Install to help fix this would be: 404 to 301 by Joel James. Automatically redirect all 404 errors to any page using 301 redirect for SEO. You can redirect and log every 404 errors. No more 404 errors in Webmaster tool.
14) Don’t Make Your Blog Content just a List of Pure Facts as though you are Lecturing to your Audience.
Make it as socially engaging as possible, connect with your Visitors to your Website in a more personal level. Write the Content in such a way that when every person reads it, it sinks in the first time they read around.
Write your Content with Intent. Writing with Intent could be something as simple as: “Please Share this Blog Post,” or Leave a Comment or Question. It could also be Read More Info here, etc. So, A Call to Action = More Interaction. 🙂
Also, keep your Blog Posts Updated with new bits of information frequently too, because Google loves that. 🙂
15) Don’t Ever Forget to Put a SiteMap on your Website so this helps for better user-friendly experience and better navigation purposes. This can be placed in your Top Menu or the bottom Footer Region of your Website.
The Sitemap is essentially like a GPS for your Audience. This allows them to maneuver around your Website easier to find what they want faster. In other words, it is much like a Table of Contents or Index as seen in a textbook.
Suggested Plugin to help add this to your Website would be: Simple Sitemap by David Gwyer.
16) Don’t Forget to Add Social Share Media Icons on your Website.
In this way you can get more Traffic into your Website because Social Media Networks itself are like a portal entry from one place to another when a person sees a fascinating link being shared around. Word of mouth always spreads like wild fire here. The Perfect Fit for doing this would be the AccessPress Social Share Plugin.
A Good Rule of Thumb to Follow is: Be sure to double check that you are able to see your Social Share Media Icons appear on your Website whether you are viewing it through an Android Phone, Iphone, Windows Phone, and PC. Because people browse the Internet more on their smartphones as well as Share things left and right, so it is to your benefit that you make sure that you Social Share Media Icons appear in every device imaginable.
If the Share Button Counter says Zero Shares, it could be a turn off for Visitors. Unless it has been shared around 10 times or more, then it might be wise to show that number openly and it would look much better for the Visitor too who views your Content. You can also Hide the Number Counter in the Settings as well.
Suggested Best Plugin to handle this would be: The SumoMe Plugin.
17) Don’t forget to include several Internal Links within your Blog Posts always.
Internal Links are when 1 Blog Post Article connects to another one on the same Website. Google really loves this as this shows them that you regard your own Content as being good quality written information.

This Internal Link can be Edited when you click the Pencil Icon.
It would open a Screen like the Following:
I always prefer to have it NOT Open in a New Tab because I wouldn’t want my Audience to have many Tabs open on their Browser. This leads to poor user-friendly experience because having to close all those Tabs can be quite a hassle.
I then Click on Update at the Bottom.
18) Don’t forget to keep your Comments Section Updated with last most recent Comment on Top.
By doing this, it allows your Visitors to know you are getting more recent Comments to your already previously past published Blog Post Articles.
It would be good to have your Comments reading from the Most Recent to the oldest.
If you go into your WordPress Dashboard on the Left, Click on Settings –> Discussion.
The last item of ‘Other Comment Settings‘ allows you to change it to the Newest Comments first.

19) Don’t forget to add a bit of humor in your Blog Posts as long as it is appropriate.
It makes for a better entertaining atmosphere. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a good chuckle every now and then huh? 😀
For instance if you were building up an online business where you wanted to mention something in your Content about quitting your daytime job 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, wanting to be your own boss and calling all the shots, then you got to keep it classy and do it with style like this. 😉

If by chance when you are doing a Product Review on your Website and you have placed a YouTube Video that has been made by someone else, chances are this can give way to huge leakage. Why? You should aim to have your own videos and link to your website or if on your site to have all links either going to other pages on your site or to your affiliate offers.
In this way, you are not losing your visitors to someone else. 😀 After all, a leakage in Traffic means less visits to your Website.
20) Don’t forget to add motivational songs also.
